Sun People Co. x Australian Fashion Week: A Morning on Tamarama Beach
There are moments in a small business that feel a little surreal.
Seeing COMMAS transform Sydney’s Tamarama Beach into the runway for their Australian Fashion Week show, with Sun People Co. sun tents lining the shoreline as VIP seating - was one of them.

The show took place at sunrise first run for the photogrpahers, then again at 7am for the VIP guests, where guests where seated beneath a row of OUR tasseled L’Ombra sun tents as models moved between ocean, shoreline and stairs in a setting that felt unmistakably Australian. It was calm, coastal and beautifully understated - a perfect fit for both brands.

Founded by creative director Richard Jarman, COMMAS has built an international reputation for refined resortwear inspired by the Australian coastline. The brand recently received major recognition internationally, continuing its rise as one of Australia’s leading luxury fashion labels.

The Resort 2027 collection was presented at 7am on Tamarama Beach as part of Australian Fashion Week, with the ocean becoming part of the set itself. Fashion publications described the collection as capturing the feeling of “post-surf calm” and a deep connection to the Australian coastline.
For Sun People Co., it felt incredibly special to see our tents used not simply as props, but as part of the guest experience itself. The tents became the VIP front row seating, creating pockets of shade (ok it was cloudy - and then it rained!) directly on the beach while blending naturally into the soft coastal palette of the show.
The morning also produced one of Australian Fashion Week’s most talked-about viral moments.
Mid-show, a local beachgoer accidentally wandered straight through the runway on his way for a morning swim - completely unaware (or maybe completely unphased) he’d stepped onto the runway of a luxury fashion show! The moment instantly spread across social media and international news outlets, with many people calling him the “real star” of the show.
The whole event captured something we love at Sun People Co. the intersection of beach culture, design, fashion and real life. Nothing overly staged. Just the ocean, early light, wind, sand, and people gathering together outdoors.

Seeing our NZ-designed sun tents sitting on Tamarama Beach during one of Australia’s biggest fashion events felt thrilling.
A huge thank you to the COMMAS team for including us in such a beautiful show. One for the memory books.
